Sweet Misery

Seconds later the dor slammed and Shawn came up the stairs. Without a second thought he picked theincredibly ill Cody up into his arms and carried him towards the car with Angel at his side.

Cody began to whimper in Shawn's arms, his fever-crazed mind didn't recognize the gentle hands that were now holding him

"Easy Cody," Angel said softly. "Its just my dad, he won't hurt you."

Still twisting around, Cody reached until his hand found Angel's and then he relaxed, weakly holding onto his fiancees hand.

"I'm here Cody, I'm here," Angel said. "I'll always be here."

Cody moaned weakly, his grip on Angel's hand beginning to slacken.

"Stay with me Cody, you're gonna be alright," Angel said as they began the drive to the hospital.

For Cody, everything was growing dim and faint, he grew still as the blackness of the void approached...

"Come on baby, stay with me," Angel pleaded.

Fading fast, Cody weakly squeezed Angel's hand one last time before the blackness swallowed him whole.

Angel started to cry holding Cody close to her.

Shawn turned and sighed when he saw how deathly ill Cody looked "Hang in there kid" he murmured, picking up speed to get to the hospital "Don't you dare die."

"Please Cody, I can't lose you," Angel said. "I swear Cody, if you die, I'll be right behind you!"

"Angel do NOT talk like that!" Shawn's voice was like iron "Cody's going to be just fine, we're nearly to the hospital."

"Daddy I've already lose one fiance, I can't live with myself if I lose another!" Angel cried.

"You're not going to lose him" Shawn murmured, quickly parking in front of the hospital. Opening the door to the backseat, he gently picked Cody up and rushed him inside "You'd better live" Shawn muttered "Or so help me I'll bring you back and kill you myself."

"Please Cody," Angel sniffled. "I love you so much, please, please don't leave me!"

Cody was diagnosed with an extreme case of the flu and rushed to the ICU. He was given several IV's filled with antibiotics and other liquids to help him keep hydrated while he battled the fever. The doctor's informed them that the next 24 hours would be telling

"Keep talking to him" they encouraged "It'll help him recover that much faster."

Angel nodded.

"Cody, you gotta come back to me baby," Angel said. "If you don't come back, I'll never be able to tell you the news."

Covered in a feverish sweat, Cody still appeared unconscious, but one of his hands weakly stirred and his eyelids fluttered briefly

"That's it Cody, come back to me baby," Angel said softly

Cody's heartbeat began to grow sluggish again and his grip grew slack, he was fading once more.

"Come on Cody, stay with me," Angel pleaded. "I need you, our baby needs you."

Cody's heart rate suddenly spiked and his grip grew strong at the mention of the word 'baby.' Very slowly, he softly groaned and tried to open his eyes.

"That's it Cody," Angel encouraged. "Come on baby, come back to me, to us."
